But in the tradition of Marvel's What If? comics, Spider's Shadow shows an alternate universe where Peter fails to separate from the symbiote and instead becomes Venom himself. Check out Noto's cover to issue #1 below: Traditionally, the birth of Venom occurs after Spider-Man discovers his black costume is actually a living, parasitic symbiote and rejects it, causing the symbiote to flee and find a more willing host in Eddie Brock.
